For a non-invasive therapeutic procedure in Calgary, try shock wave therapy. Northgate Physiotherapy, Chiropractic & Massage Therapy Centre has the treatment to get you feeling yourself again.
Extra-Corporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is used for the treatment of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions. This non-invasive procedure uses shock waves (an electromagnetic shock wave that focuses on a central point as a pressure wave) that stimulate the healing of problematic tissue. ESWT offers an advantage over traditional surgical procedures due to its non-invasive approach which releases shock waves that are delivered to the injured bodily tissue. The shocks create a microtrauma to the tissue that stimulates the healing process.
ESWT helps the following conditions:
During the treatment, the sound waves emitted stimulate the healing of injured tissues. Healing is accelerated and typically there are usually no side effects. The treatment is affordable and covered under your paramedical provider.
How is the Treatment Performed?
Three to six treatments are performed at weekly intervals. Treatments are simple without any injections. The patient's affected area is positioned against the ESWT machine while a shock wave is delivered to the area in which the patient feels as a pulse. Treatments begin at the lowest intensity level. Here, some discomfort may be felt. After half a second, the body becomes used to the sensation. To date, there haven’t been any serious harmful side effects reported.
After Your ESWT Treatment
After treatment, patients are free to leave immediately and should experience no discomfort. There might be a slight worsening of pain for a limited time in days to follow.
